Happy International Women’s Day
I want to wish everyone a Happy International Women’s Day!
Have you joined any feminist book clubs? Today I am featuring three feminist book clubs. Check them out!
Book Riot just announced PERSIST, a feminist book club that is happening on Instagram. They are working with the Instagram live feature for their discussions. Their first book is Too Fat, Too Slutty, Too Loud by Anne Helen Peterson.
Emma Watson has a feminist book club on Goodreads called Our Shared Shelf. They recently announced their March/April pick, Heart Berries by Terese Marie Mailhot. It’s a memoir by a Native American woman who documents her life as a way to cope with mental illness. It sounds fantastic, and it was given a glowing review by feminist icon Roxane Gay. If you are not reading Roxane Gay’s book reviews on Goodreads, you are missing out. She writes brief reviews that just get to the heart of the book and also address structural issues, I don’t know how she fits it all into one paragraph.
One more book club to check out is Vaginal Fantasy Book Club, which is led by Felicia Day, Veronica Belmont, Kiala Kazebee and Bonnie Burton. They focus on romance novels with strong female lead characters. Go ahead and raid the club bookshelf, but stick around for the videos. There are also local meet-ups for this club and although I have not been, I am happy to report that the Austin group is called the Reverse Cowgirls. So cute.
I hope everyone has a fantastic International Women’s Day. If you’re in Austin or listening online, KUTX has all female DJs today, playing only songs featuring women performers.
