She’s bedeviling him!

Am I selfish to have enjoyed my Hurricane Ike evacuees so much? I was so happy to have my brother’s family in town the first part of the week, and my Nana staying with me the second half of the week. They finally got to see our house and enjoy some Austin fun. The weather even cooperated, with some nice cool temperatures for September. My niece and nephew played in our backyard, did some art projects on the back porch, and got to experience Phil’s Ice House. Piper picked a peck of peppers, Patrick played piano, and Melissa pruned our peach tree! I regret not documenting the fun, but I was too involved in it to ruin it with a camera.

Nana and I had a great time, as usual. We saw the Helmut Barnett exhibit at Wally Workman Gallery, and did some damage at Gardens and Barton Springs Nursery. I think Nana even enjoyed being around the dogs! The title of this post is her observation of Sweetpea and Pepper. Ike was a terrible storm, but it was nice getting some visitors!

In some of the down time, I sifted out some compost and tried the lasagne method on the big peach tree in back. (NB: Not such a great idea with a puppy around, it has been un-layered in her effort to dig up the yummy bits of compost and cardboard). I have a lot of work to do with the newly solarized area in back and planting all the goodies from Nana’s visit. And oh yeah, some fall vegetables would be good. Gotta get moving.

Aw sweet story! Hey we found a caterpillar on milkweed that we put into a little habitat. It turned into a butterfly a couple of days ago – a Queen Butterfly. So pretty. We enjoy witnessing that whole life cycle.
