Stillhouse Hollow Nature Preserve
I went to this little preserve in west Austin today to poke around and play with my camera. The rain seemed to have given up for the day. Most of the trail leads through Ashe juniper woodland, but the end of the trail is in a gorgeous canyon with rocky outcrops covered in moss and maidenhair ferns with sycamores and oaks mixed in with the junipers. It looks like amazing golden-cheeked warbler habitat, as long as the little birds don’t mind apartment complexes on the near horizon. I didn’t get many great pictures, but this little guy did stick his tongue out at me. A great-horned owl was calling, and I tried to get him to come over and have his picture taken, but he stayed on the other side of the canyon.
